Hailing from Amsterdam , the progressive death onslaught known as Obsidian have found some stable ground with Candlelight Records and their label debut, Point Of Infinity. I’ve always thought of the band as one of the most underrated unsigned metal bands since their debut album Emerging. Now with a more mature, tighter sound, Obsidian are sure to evolve onto the who’s who list of the metal underground. Point Of Infinity shows a Textures inspired heaviness and groove combined with the technical riffage of Prog Metal legends Athiest, topped off with intriguing and simple melodies. The nine songs on the album are well structured yet, with some songs having abrupt endings or fade-outs, the album lacks overall flow. Usually an album that lacks flow won’t keep my interest for too long, but this one is definitely an exception due to the musicianship and the individually well structured tracks. The occasional clean vocals throughout the album are a nice touch and a big improvement from the cleans on Emerging which I found unappealing.Overall, despite the minor flaws, Point Of Infinity is a huge step forward for Obsidian. I look forward to witnessing the bands future success!

Mega Metal

Klarer Fall - "Point of infinity" muss man sich erarbeiten. Die Belohnung ist dafür umso höher.
Aardschok

The Pit

The New Review

Obsidian are working an angle not too many bands have the guts to try. If you can keep an open mind you’ll enjoy Point Of Infinity.
Don't count on it

This album is a solid leap forward for the band, and a record that they should feel proud of having made. If you like technical/progressive death metal, definitely check this out.
Queens of steel
