| Mix ready, almost done (Placed: March - 04 - 2010) |
Long time not speak. As always, big projects like making albums are impossible to deadline. But we are actually almost, ALMOST done. The mix is ready. The artwork almost ready. The Photoshoot is done. We are waiting for the photo's so that we can incorporate them in the artwork, and then it is on it's way to the presses. Let's hope Candlelight records will not say that they feel it's more an autumn kind of record... We feel it's more like spring!

We are proud and very excited to inform you that we have inked a deal with CANDLELIGHT RECORDS for our upcoming album! The new album will be released early in 2010 and it will contain 9 new brutal and grooving tracks, revealing a more evolved Obsidian. Also it will feature beautiful artwork by Robbe K. Guitar player Sjaak has grown a little soft this summer, and worked on a new musical project called The Fiber. It is somewhere between Radiohead, Massive Attack, Tool, Porcupine Tree, and Lamb (without saying "as good as"). So, if you too are such a softy, listen to the sweet sounds of The Fiber.

Hyves is a kind of Myspace that is focused on the Dutch crowd. In other words, they didn't make it internationally. But it is mighty "gezellig" over there. Ever since I have been recording the new tracks with Gerben's ESP LTD MH-400, I have come to realize that a guitar can play better than my current guitar. Also, with it's single coils, it's not very metal. So, wednesday something broke in the relationship between me and my guitar...
So I bought a new one! and it plays beautifully.

Guitarist Sjaak bought a new pet to play with. The strange looking beast is a Diezel VH4 amp. For now I just played on it my iddy biddy self, but it sure played the pants of my ass. With a little luck it will be used for the guitar sound of our upcoming album we are working on at the moment.

As of yesterday, the recording of our second album has officially begun. For the coming week, Melle and Simon have made a second home of the Excess Studio's in Rotterdam. We will also open a studio blog any time soon where you can follow the whole ordeal, from drums to artwork. We'll keep you posted!

Dude number 10! I don't know his name anymore. There where just too many of them. As you might know, we where the supporting band of the NK grunting contest 2008, and it certainly was "unusual". We begain with a nice little show playing some of our own songs and afterwards the contest for new born grunting talent started. After playing Sepultura's Refuse/Resist for the 13th time, it's hard to keep it serious though.

A little bit of fun on friday the 13th. NK grunten 2008 is a grunting competition that will take place in the Bazart in The Hague. And we will provide the live music the contestants can sing to. So we are rehearsing some goldy oldies from At the Gates to Death. During the intermezzo, we will be able to rip a few of our own songs and the evening will be closed by a gig of Severe Torture.

There is no turning back. End of August Melle will start the recording of our next album in studio Excess. To the outside world there is an eerie silence before the storm. But behind the scenes we are burning rubber. Test recordings, artwork, practice sessions and group hugs don't come cheap you know.

| That's sick dude! (Placed: February - 17 - 2008) |
Yesterday we played in Zwolle. Robbe got sick from some mistery meat he ate at the gas station. Metal as he is, he still got on stage to complete a pretty good show... almost. During the last song the constant urge to vomit with each growling breath got to him. So he left discretely to the back door and let it rip. Now we had a new problem. He had to drive but couln'd and we drank to much.
Here's the sick part. It turned out that not Circle of silence but the band Bloodsessions was our co-act. Chance would have it that they practice in the same building as we do, so they had the same destination as we did. Luckily they also had a non drinking spare driver. Thanks Eric for driving our second car with dead singer home.

On the site of Arnhem Metal Meeting you can now view the times and stages when and where the bands will play. We play together at the same time as folk metal - costume band Cruachan. So I guess we should be bad mouthing them, that they suck and that you should watch us... but we wont. Just be there! By the way, tickets are SOLD OUT!

| Drummer Melle: human canvas (Placed: November - 2 - 2007) |
Some ink, a design, and a whole lot'a hurt but yesterday Melle has become a bit more metal. A third tattoo has decorated his body giving us band members some light reading while playing. Too bad my Tibetan is a bit rusty. The sick basterd even took pictures of the whole process. Yikes!

The cat is out of the bag and it's name is Gerben. We are pleased to announce that Gerben, guitar player of Disavowed, has joined Obsidian! We have begun practicing and Glen is helping Gerben how tune a bass guitar. Soon you can admire this handsome lad on a stage near you.

| Glen leaves (Placed: September - 12 - 2007) |
A bit of a sad newsletter this time. Glen, our long time bandmate and very, very good friend decided to quit his job as Obsidian's dedicated bassplayer.

"Being in Obsidian for almost seven years now means it has become part of my life. That's why the decision of leaving the band has been a very difficult one. Being part of the band has given me more than just the ability to play great music, it has given me four great friends for which I am very grateful.
Unfortunately, during the past 6 months I have realized that playing music has taken a less important place in my life. This is mainly caused by the urge to enrich my life in other areas as well (setting up a business, traveling). Because I truly believe Obsidian is at the beginning of experiencing some great new things, it would not be fair to the band to have doubts about the future. Therefore I believe Obsidian would be a more stable band with a truly dedicated bass-player who will give it his all. Though the idea of not being part of something that is so dear to me truly hurts, I think it's the best decision for the band as a whole.
I will not leave the band until a proper bass-player has presented him/herself. Therefore Obsidian will continue to perform and make music. Until then I will enjoy the experience to the fullest. Kind regards and thanks for all the great moments."
Although it really saddens us that he felt he had to take this decision, we fully support him, as (almost) ex-bandmates and as friends. We wish him the best and most of luck with everything he is going to do and we will miss him a lot! Glen is a great guy (literally) and a great bassplayer and it will proof a hard job to find a suitable replacement.

Emerging 2007 is getting ink time. In all kinds of languages Emerging is being lied about like there is no tomorrow. We now have devided our reviews in the languages English, Dutch and German. I do not understand Greek or Italian so no place for them.

Yes ladies and gentlemen, it has finally happened: Obsidian has found a new home with Rusty Cage Records! RCR is a very enthusiastic label also working with Non-Divine, Magnacult and Cypher and doing a great job at that!
This means that 'Emerging' will be re-released and remastered, including new vocal tracks by our new frontman Robbe K!
We are very proud and very happy to be working with Rusty Cage, they are very dedicated and skillful, so we have great trust in what the future will bring.

Obsidian is the opening act for the progressive rock & metal festival Headway 2007 on the 6th of april. Don't be fasionable, because than you'll be too late. It's in the p60 in Amstelveen wich is a very nice venue, so expect some nice photographs of our new line-up.

Yesterday we played with our new line-up for for a lively audience. Inspite of the crazy time that we could go to our houses, it was a very good night. Obsidian finally feels complete. Robbe K kicked everybodies ass, including his. Tomorrow (10th of february), Parkhof in Alkmaar.
